General

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/databases/index.html : The National Library of Medicine maintains several useful databases, such as TOXLINE (toxicology and hazardous chemicals), BIOETHICSLINE (ethical, legal, and public policy issues), HealthSTAR (health care administration and procedures), CANCERLIT (cancer) and AIDSLINE (AIDS). Altogether there are over 40 databases with more than 18 million references.

MEDLINE is the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) premier bibliographic database, covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the pre-clinical sciences. You can search a collection of 10 million articles dating back to 1966. CAUTION: MEDLINE is a service of the medical community for the medical community. It is not designed for lay people. You may have a hard time finding articles on your subject if you don't know the precise medical term. Even if you find what you are looking for, you may not understand the medical jargon. Also, MEDLINE does not give you the full text of the article; it gives you only a detailed journal abstract. But you can order the full text through the "Loansome Doc" ordering system, which allows you to get the document from a local medical library. Fees and delivery methods vary by locale. For more information, go to www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/factsheets/loansome_doc.html MEDLINE can be accessed through several different gateways, each of which has different features, which alter the way you search and the format of your results. Some of the gateways are:

Evaluated MEDLINE at BioMedNet: http://biomednet.com/bd/MEDLINE;

Infotrieve MEDLINE Service Provider: http://www4.infotrieve.com/products_services/databases/medline_pubmed.asp

PubMed MEDLINE Retreival System: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi

Medical Products

The Medical Product Safety Network (MedSun) improves FDA's understanding of problems with the use of medical devices so that the FDA, healthcare facilities, clinicians, and manufacturers can better address safety concerns. The MedSun Web page provides easy public access to de-identified reports sent into the MedSun program in addition to important safety information to MedSun participants and to the national clinical community about reported problems.
